Auto accidents are very common currently. Fast driving, not obeying traffic rules, unqualified drivers, terrible state of roads, weather conditions, and not well maintained cars are few of the reasons of accidents. We all must drive prudently and carefully, still, if we face an accident we should know what to do at once after the incident.
In case your car is hit by another car, you may be going through a lot of mixed emotions like anger, fear, aggressiveness etc, however, the best thing to do at that time is to calm yourself down and take a deep breath. Immediately after you come back in your senses, you need to take a look at your body and the other persons which are with you. If you got an injury, don’t make a delay in calling for an ambulance right away.
The next step should be to contact the police. It is always wise to contact police even if you involve in a small mishap. Don’t disappear from the sight unless your file is completed. The police have power and are accountable to inspect the incident and create a detailed report. In addition, wherever any information is required to someone the police give complete information. Police information is always useful for the insurance group to process your claim promptly; therefore you should always give it a priority.
To clear your state, take snaps of the place and exact spot. You can do it without any difficulty if you have fitted camera in cell phone. Record the information of the crashing car like its shade, model, and registration number. Also write the information about driver including name, contact information, and cell number. Drawing the incident on the paper will also be valuable. You should draw it carefully remembering the sides from which the cars are approaching and how it really occurred. If there is some viewer, note his/ her name, address, and contact number. The eyewitness is valuable if the other driver don’t commit his mistake even if he is at fault.
After this, you must call your insurance company. It would be good for you if you call them when the police officer is present on the scene. The officer can explain the whole occurrence better than you as you may not be in your complete senses to narrate the event to your insurance company’s representative. This way your insurance claim will be processed quickly and it would save your precious time. After this initial process by the insurance company, you need to continuously follow them for the claim.
If you involved in a minor accident then to keep yourself at bay from hassle, don’t make a contact with the police and straighten out the issue all by yourself. The one who makes out he/she is guilty should pay damages to other, otherwise, everyone should follow the lengthy procedure and that will not be worth your precious time.
On the other hand, the money may be coming from the insurance company for the repairs, but keep in mind you have to control the repairs. You might also get less money than the market value for repairs.
It is noticed that people do not study the insurance rules carefully when they acquire it. You should study the insurance policy prior to signing it, because when the accident takes place you sense the value of payment issue from the insurance party.
